Stinkin' Eczema

This is what my sweet Paxton looked like over the Thanksgiving holiday. It was pitiful. He was covered head to toe, his feet bleed, and I could tell he was in pain.

I decided to make an appointment with a pediatric dermatoligist. We had been prescribed a 2.5% Hydrocortisone ointment by the peditrician but it was not working. The dermatologist (nurse practioner) prescribed Desonide Lotion .05% and this medication cleared up most of the Eczema over the first night. We have not completely figured out what triggers an outbreak, but we are narrowing the list. In the meantime, many changes have been made. We cover him in Eucerin at each diaper changing. Our clothes are now washed in Dreft or TideFree as well. No candles. No dryer sheets. No perfume or cologne. All cotten pajamas, no fleece or flannel. No footed pjs. A humidifier during all naps and at night. And babies with Eczema tend to be hot natured so it was suggested we put a fan on him at night.

The nurse practioner told us Eczema would probably be a part of Paxton's life until age 8 or 9. Having Eczema puts him at a higher risk for allergies and asthma, so we will watch that as he ages. If, however, overly dry skin is the only health issue we have in his lifetime I will take it!

And as you can see he doesnt seem to be much bothered by the situation...this is Pax waiting to see the doctor.

Look at him chillin! He basically looks like he is saying..."What mom...I'm tough...this stinkin Eczema isn't going to bother me!" You weren't lying though. Man his Eczema was horrible! That was insane. Glad to hear it's already getting better.

Aww poor guy! At least he doesn't look miserable. I hope it clears up for him soon. I was also going to tell you to try the Nuby straw sippy cups. Lexi and Lyla really like those for water. We're using the Nuby regular sippy cups for milk now because they like to lay back and drink. So far so good. We had started giving them water out of the sippy cups months ago so this transition has gone smoothly so far. They're still getting a combo of formula and milk until I run out of formula so we'll see how milk alone goes soon enough. Good luck and let me know if you need any help!

i'm 26 and still deal with it...my 1 year old daughter gets patches and as someone with lots of experience, i can say all the little things youre doing are great! my only suggestion is to put the medication on and immediatly put eucerin on over it then straight into cotton pjs...works great in our house!!
